The Sony Xperia 1 V offers a familiar design with slight changes
The Xperia 1 V is hopefully just around the corner. There’s still a chance the phone will make an appearance at this year’s MWC in Barcelona. In the meantime, leaks have started to multiply regarding Sony’s next flagship. A set of new high definition renders now offer a great preview of what we think the device will look like.
In short, Sony won’t change much to its iconic design. If rumors are to be believed, yes. Well, rumors and a recently leaked photo of the back of the phone. Said photo coincides well with these renderings.
At first glance, Sony will change the camera island of the Xperia 1 V slightly. If you compare this camera island to the Xperia 1 IV, you’ll instantly notice that the ToF camera and RGB IR sensor are gone. Thus, we are left with three large sensors (they seem larger than on the 1 IV), the lowest of which houses a periscope camera. The LED flash moved into the island in the upcoming model, while it was outside the island above in last year’s handset.

The new set of renders also comes with some alleged hardware specifications. According to these, the Xperia 1 V will measure 161.0 x 69.3 x 8.5mm, compared to 165 x 71 x 8.2mm for the Xperia 1 IV. The source says the phone will keep the same 6.5-inch flat screen, likely with the same 21:9 aspect ratio – both seem likely. If all of these metrics hold true, we can expect noticeably thinner display bezels on the Xperia 1 V.
Apparently, the Xperia 1 V will offer a 12 MP main camera, as well as a 12 MP periscope telephoto lens, just like its predecessor. Its ultrawide would be upgraded to a 48MP unit, up from the current model’s 12MP. On the front – the Xperia 1V should retain a 12MP selfie stick.
According to an earlier rumor, the Xperia 1 V will be based on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which also makes a lot of sense. This might be the thinnest smartphone around with Qualcomm’s flagship chip. Therefore, we can only hope for some serious attention to cooling from Sony.
