The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra would feature a new telephoto sensor

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is set to be unveiled at a special event on February 1, along with the rest of the Galaxy S23 family. So at this point it’s not even official, but today we have a new rumor… about the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The successor to the S23 Ultra, which will land in early 2024.

According to the prolific leakster ice universe, the Galaxy S24 Ultra will replace the telephoto sensor used in its predecessors, and “adopt a new solution”. While ice universe does not mention which telephoto sensor it is, we assume it is the periscope zoom. Again, the renewal could apply to both this and the 3x zoom module.

On the other hand, the main camera of the S24 Ultra would either remain the same as the S23 Ultra, or only change slightly – nothing too significant. While the upcoming S23 Ultra would have retained the same zoom hardware as its predecessor, the S22 Ultra, image quality would improve thanks to better color science and “AI algorithms”. This information, by the way, came from the same ice universe.

So it looks like the S23 Ultra will improve the zoom image quality somewhat, while the S24 Ultra could bring us some truly groundbreaking new technology if we wait another year. On the other hand, when it comes to the main camera, the big change will come in 2023 with the new 200 MP sensor, which will also be used in 2024 in identical or slightly modified form.

Needless to say, you should definitely take all of this with a healthy dose of skepticism, given how far we currently are from the eventual release of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. It would be intriguing if it all comes together in the end, though.
