The reason Barcelona will not play forward again revealed
Reports stemming from Spain suggest we will never see Yusuf Demir in a Barcelona shirt again.
Yusuf Demir’s Barcelona stint
Yusuf Demir would be signed by Barcelona during the 2021 summer transfer window.
With Lionel Messi leaving for PSG and Barca already struggling for other forward options, it was clear the club needed to invest in their attack.
And, to Barcelona’s credit, they did bring in a number of options, though none have really worked out so far.
Sergio Aguero, through no fault of his own, has been forced to retire from the game. Luuk de Jong signed in poor form and has since looked largely hopeless when donning La Blaugrana colours.
Elsewhere, Memphis Depay has shown patches of quality, but his season has been marred by injury.
Finally, Barcelona would sign 18-year-old Yusuf Demir on loan from Austrian powerhouse, Rapid Wien.
Demir had been one of the breakout talents in Austria and, after a promising start, looked set to join Barcelona’s already promising next generation of talent.
Demir will not play for Barcelona again
Barcelona signed the winger on loan, but they did have the chance to make the move permanent.
As per Marca:
An option was embedded into the loan agreement between the two teams that if Demir played 10 matches for Los Cules, then the Spanish club would be required to purchase him for 10 million euros
After Demir started in four of Barcelona’s first six games of the La Liga season and was then brought back into the fold by Xavi recently, it seemed very likely that Demir, who has now featured nine times for Barca, would become a permanent signing.
However, Marca have since reported that Demir will not play for the Catalonian outfit again because he is one game away from Barcelona activating the clause to purchase him and, given Barca’s financial situation, they do not wish to active the option as they do not see him as a necessary expense.
