The latest on Edinson Cavani & Raphael Varane ahead of Man United’s meeting with Southampton

Southampton vs Manchester United

Sunday’s Premier League action will see three games play out.

One of the first will be Southampton playing host to Manchester United.

The Saints had a pretty underwhelming opening game of the campaign, which saw Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side looking pretty awful defensively, eventually conceding three goals against Everton.

Man United, on the other hand, could not have asked for a better season-opener.

The Red Devils faced off with Leeds United at Old Trafford. And after unveiling Raphael Varane pre-match, went on to smash Marcelo Bielsa’s side by five goals to one.

Bruno Fernandes netted a hat-trick on the day and Paul Pogba provided four assists.

As a result, United are no doubt extremely confident of earning their second win of the campaign on Sunday.

Solskjaer on Cavani, Varane & Henderson

Ahead of the tie, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would hold his pre-Southampton press conference.

The Norwegian discussed a number of topics in the presser, including team news.

Edinson Cavani would miss the start of Man United’s season due to him being granted an extended break, whilst Raphael Varane was only unveiled as a United player ahead of Leeds

But when speaking on Friday, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed both have now joined in training:

“With regard to team news, that’s a boost as well, Edinson’s joined in, Raphael’s joined in and we’re getting fitter and fitter. They’ve worked well. They’ve had minutes. We’ll see who’s making the flight down to Saints on Saturday.”

Solskjaer also provided an update on Dean Henderson, who had been out due to Covid-19:

“With regards to Dean, he was tired after training. Now he feels much better. He’s passed all the tests. He’s training and building himself up again because he’s lost a few weeks. He’s working hard in the gym, working hard on the grass.”
