The latest Newcastle team news ahead of season-opener vs West Ham
Newcastle vs West Ham
Newcastle United will begin their 2021/22 season on Sunday, August 15th.
The Magpies will face off with West Ham United in the first of two clashes on Super Sunday.
Steve Bruce’s side had a mixed 2020/21 overall. They started out pretty poorly and did look as though they could be sucked into a relegation battle at one point in the season.
However, they had a very solid end to the campaign and would eventually finish in 12th – in a large part due to the exploits of Joe Willock, who scored seven in his last seven league games for Newcastle and now looks set for a permanent move up north:
🚨 Joe Willock has agreed terms with Newcastle (per @mcgrathmike @footyinsider247) for permanent move from Arsenal. 21yo to head north today & expected to start medical tomorrow morning before completing move for fee of above £20m @TheAthleticUK #NUFC #AFC https://t.co/4r3xRuA9Fw

Newcastle team news update
Ahead of Sunday’s game, Steve Bruce would speak to the media on Friday.
When doing so, Bruce was drawn on a number of topics, including injury news.
And for the most part, Bruce’s update was a positive one, with the Newcastle boss confirming that Martin Dubravka and Paul Dummett are the only players who will not be available on Sunday:
“Aside from the goalkeeping situation [Dúbravka’s injury], the only one out is Paul Dummett who won’t make it on Sunday. Everyone else is fit and available.”
