‘The glue’: Some Real Madrid fans blame Getafe defeat on absence of one key player
Supporters of Spanish giants Real Madrid have flooded to social media on Sunday, to bemoan the absence of one key performer up against Getafe.
Unal the difference
Carlo Ancelotti’s men were of course back in action a short time ago.
On the back of a timely 10-day break amid the festive period, Los Blancos travelled to the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, aiming to maintain their advantage atop the La Liga table courtesy of a win over relegation-battling Getafe.
When all was said and done, however, Real simply failed to step up to the plate in any way, shape or form.
An altogether underwhelming display, during which they dominated possession but struggled to carve out clear-cut opportunities, ultimately culminated in the visitors being put to the sword by a goal to nil.
The game’s telling moment was forthcoming inside ten minutes on Sunday, as Eder Militao’s careless mistake allowed Enes Unal to nick in, before picking out the far corner in style:

‘No Vini, no party’
Real Madrid, in turn, remain eight points clear at the summit of the Spanish top-flight, but, crucially, with 2nd-placed Sevilla boasting a pair of games in hand over Los Blancos.
In defence of Ancelotti and co., they were forced to make the trip to the Alfonso Perez today with a number of key performers unavailable for selection, with the likes of Thibaut Courtois, Federico Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga ruled out owing to positive tests for Covid-19.
None, however, saw his absence more sorely felt, in the eyes of the Real faithful, than Vinicius Jr.
Brazilian wide-man Vinicius, amid a scintillating campaign to date, was too forced into a spell in self isolation this week, after returning a positive test for Covid.
And his explosive presence along the left flank, in turn, proved badly missed by Real this afternoon, with just some of the social media reaction to Los Merengues’ damaging defeat to Getafe showcased below:

Everyone in the Madrid team looks so tired today, especially Modrić. Mad how much Vinícius impacts this team.

See how badly we need Vinicius. He’s been our best player this season. And yes, over benzema. Without him, nothing seems to happen
