The Dark Horses at the Wimbledon Championships 2021 Who’ll Pose a Threat for Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer
It’s time for the short grass court season, however, simultaneously it is time for one of the most prestigious events in sporting history, the Wimbledon Championships 2021. This is the first-ever Grand Slam event played and it goes back to the 19th century. The All England Club was established in the year 1877.
As we approach the Wimbledon Championships 2021, we take a look at the dark horses who could surprise and upstage defending champion Novak Djokovic and the living legend Roger Federer for the prized possession. Speaking about the Serb, he has been in ruthless form this season, winning titles in Melbourne and Paris. He has been in supreme form and the manner in which he is going, it doesn’t look like he will stop anytime soon.
On the other side, Federer and Wimbledon have their own relationship. Although the Swiss ace is still finding his rhythm after returning to Tour from a lengthy duration, he can quickly adjust to the courts at the All England Club.
There could be surprises at the Wimbledon Championships 2021
Players such as Dominic Thiem, Andrey Rublev, Daniil Medvedev, and Stefanos Tsitsipas can cause upsets and go deep into the event. Amongst all these players, not many have impressed with their performances at the Grand Slam event played on grass. However, since the last edition of the Championships, these players have improved their games to a great extent.
Players such as Tsitsipas, Medvedev, and Thiem have learned to compete at the Grand Slam events, and although there is further improvement required, they have learned to adapt towards the best of five sets format. It is a matter of time for them to cross the final hurdle after Medvedev and Tsitsipas were finalists at the previous two Majors.
Thiem has not been impressive on the grass courts and his season so far has been unimpressive. However, he can use this tournament to turn his fortunes around. Rublev has grown to become a real force in the men’s game over the past 12 months. his recent stint in Halle was a positive sign too.
The Wimbledon Championships 2021 begin on the 28th of June and the winner will be decided on the 11th of July. It will be interesting to see which of these players can give a tough time to Novak Djokovic and the eight-time champion Roger Federer.
