Tecno Chameleon coloring technology announced at MWC 2023: report

Tecno reportedly announced its Chameleon coloring technology during Mobile World Congress 2023 in Barcelona. When integrated into the back of a smartphone, the technology can apparently generate a wide range of color patterns at the push of a button. The company will also launch its Phantom V Fold, the Chinese smartphone maker’s first foldable smartphone, at the MWC event. The phone is said to be the world’s first left-right foldable smartphone. It is confirmed to be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ SoC. The chipset has an AnTuTu test score of over 1.08 million.
Tecno Chameleon coloring technology, according to a report by GSMArena, is a full-spectrum electric controller prism coloring technology that uses a grid of submicron prism substance, which changes direction when an electric field is present.
The back cover is neither a screen nor a light source. It is a technique to color the light scattered on its surface. And users can choose from a total of 1600 different colors to control the light mechanically or optimize it based on battery status, music or notifications.
While this technology is new, the color-changing back cover is not. In September last year, the company launched the Tecno Camon 19 Pro Mondrian Edition with a removable back cover. The single storage configuration of 8GB RAM + 128GB is priced at Rs. 17,999 in India.
The smartphone has a multi-colored back panel that changes to blue, pink and white. According to Tecno, the monochrome back cover of the Tecno Camon 19 Pro Mondrian Edition changes color when exposed to sunlight, thanks to the company’s polychromatic photoisomer technology.
Polychromatic photoisomer technology effectively enables a smartphone’s monochrome back cover to display multiple changing colors under luminance, providing an immersive “light hunting” experience. Under ultraviolet light, the system utilizes “photosynthesis molecular bond chain recovery and breaking effect”, making colorless molecular groups chromogenic and back to colorless. As the name suggests, Mondrian Art inspired the design of the phone.
