Stranger Things spin-off series is ‘different from what everyone expects’, say Duffer Brothers

The Stranger Things spinoff “is going to be different than everyone expects,” creators and showrunners Matt and Ross Duffer announced, ahead of the impending two-parter Stranger Things 4 Volume 2.

“There is a version that develops in parallel [to Stranger Things 5] , but they would never pull it in parallel. I think actually we’re going to start looking at that as soon as we’re done and done with those visual effects; Matt and I are going to start getting into it,” Ross told Deadline.

Matt added: “The reason we didn’t do anything is just because you don’t want to do it for the wrong reasons, and it was like, ‘Is this something I would want to do, doesn’t matter if it’s related to Stranger Things or not? And definitely. Even though we’re retiring the Stranger Things title, I’m so, so excited about it. But it’s not… It’s going to be different from what everyone expects, including Netflix.

Fans of the hit sci-fi horror series are currently waiting for the final two huge episodes of the fourth season.

When season five was announced as the show’s last, the Duffer Brothers more or less announced a spin-off, teasing that “there are still many more exciting stories to be told in the world of Stranger Things; new mysteries, new adventures, unexpected new heroes.”

The idea for the Stranger Things spin-off went silent until actor Finn Wolfhard – who plays Mike Wheeler – came up with an idea that struck the Duffer Brothers as something they wanted to explore.

“Finn Wolfhard, he wasn’t spitting, he just said, ‘I think that would be a cool spin-off,’ and we were like, ‘How the hell,’” Ross said of the when Wolfhard correctly guessed what the new series would be.

Stranger Things 4 Volume 1 is now streaming on Netflix. Stranger Things 4 Volume 2 is slated for July 1 on Netflix.
