Stranger Things Greenlit animated series on Netflix

A Stranger Things animated series has been greenlit by Netflix. While Stranger Things is set to end after season 5, its universe will continue to expand, co-creators Matt and Ross Duffer have confirmed. There are no details about the premise or the voice cast, other than a hint that reads “The adventure continues…”, presumably hinting that the story takes place after the events of Stranger Things 5. Duffer brothers also claimed that the show would be in the vein of “Saturday morning cartoons”, which aligns with the 1980s timeline of the live-action series. In terms of style, we can presumably expect something like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or GI Joe.

“We’ve always dreamed of an animated Stranger Things in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons we grew up with, and seeing that dream come true has been absolutely thrilling,” Matt and Ross Duffer said in a prepared statement. “We couldn’t be more blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have dreamed up – the scripts and artwork are amazing, and we can’t wait to share more with you! The adventure continues…” Australian animation Flying Bark Productions, best known for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s What If…?, has been hired to develop the animated series Stranger Things. The Duffer Brothers will produce the series under their Upside Down Pictures banner, which they created on last year.

While the animated show Stranger Things is the first spin-off to be greenlit by Netflix, there are a few more projects coming from the Duffer Brothers. First up we have a London play set in the Upside Down universe called Stranger Things: The First Shadow, followed by another untitled live-action offshoot. Meanwhile, Stranger Things season 5 is set to begin filming in May, as confirmed by actor Noah Schnapp – who plays Will Byers on the show – during an Instagram Live session.

However, it is not expected to premiere on Netflix until 2024. In November, the creators also revealed the title of Episode 1, “The Crawl”, with Season 5 taking place primarily in Hawkins, as the protagonists explore the story surrounding the parallel world. – the realm where monsters like the Demogrogon and Mind Flayer resided before entering the real world.

Ross Duffer also revealed in a previous interview that Will Byers will have a big role to play in Stranger Things 5 ​​- which isn’t surprising, considering his kidnapping was the catalyst for the entire series. Reports from last year also revealed that the Duffer Brothers finally chose a writer, Halia Abdel-Meguid, to adapt the critically acclaimed manga/anime Death Note. News about the Stranger Things animated series comes weeks after Netflix announced a Scott Pilgrim anime, which would bring back the cast of Edgar Wright’s 2010 film for voice roles. As mentioned earlier, the voice cast for the Stranger Things animated series has yet to be confirmed.
