Manchester United suffer humiliating loss

One of the darkest moments in Manchester United’s on-field history played out on Sunday, October 24th.

The Manchester outfit would welcome bitter rivals Liverpool to Anfield for a Premier League clash.

Liverpool headed into the game unbeaten in all competitions this season and unbeaten against Man United in the league since back in 2018.

So, whilst Jurgen Klopp’s side were certainly favourites for the game, very few could have predicted just how badly the Merseysiders would humiliate Manchester United on the day.

The game was over in the first 45 and when the full-time whistle blew, Manchester United had conceded a staggering five goals against Liverpool without reply. The first time they have lost by at least five goals to nil at home since 1955:

Manchester United share price predicted to fall

Following the tie, speculation over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future has been rife. And why would it not be?

Manchester United are already out of the League Cup, their Premier League title hopes have all but disappeared after just nine games – they currently sit eight points off top spot.

And in the Champions League, despite avoiding many of the heavy hitters, United are struggling to pick up wins, with a late strike from Cristiano Ronaldo against both Villarreal and a very weak Atalanta side only just seeing United scrape together two wins.

Man United, nearly three years on from his initial appointment as interim boss, the Reds still do not have a clearly defined identity under the Norwegian.

Despite all of this, the latest word on Tuesday is that Solskjaer is, for now, safe in his job:

The decision to keep Solskjaer, however, could be set to have a detrimental impact on the share price of Manchester United.

101 spoke to Mike Owens, a Global Sales Trader at Saxo Markets. And the stock market expert is predicting that, on the back of the Liverpool loss and ahead of a tough run of fixtures, Manchester United’s share price could fall further if results continue to suffer under Solskjaer:

“The ‘Ronaldo Rally’ saw Manchester United shares soar in the early part of the season, adding hundreds of millions of dollars to the club’s value. However, since hitting their peak this year, they have fallen significantly driven in part by the Glazer family selling 9.5 million shares, with the slump wiping almost $700m off the club’s market capitalisation – or total stock value.

“Following the sale, United’s fortunes on the pitch have been mixed and ahead of a difficult run of games, the club’s value could fall further if their results continue to suffer under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, putting additional focus on the prospect of changing manager and bolstering the squad in January.”

And with Manchester United seemingly sticking with their former striker for the time being, said prediction seems very likely to come true.
