Steven Gerrard makes Mo Salah penalty claim following Aston Villa’s loss to Liverpool

Steven Gerrard has hit out at the decision to award Liverpool a penalty during their recent clash.

Liverpool edge out Aston Villa

Liverpool would play host to Aston Villa in a Premier League match on Saturday.

The tie, of course, saw Steven Gerrard return to Anfield as the manager of Villa for the first time, not that anyone mentioned it.

Liverpool headed into the game knowing that they needed a win on the day to keep pace with league leaders Manchester City, who saw off Wolves earlier in the day thanks to a penalty.

And, when all was said and done in Anfield, it was also a penalty that decided the Liverpool tie.

Mohamed Salah would step up to convert said penalty, handing Liverpool a 1-0 win and keeping his superb goal-scoring form alive:

It also means that Liverpool remain within just one point of the PL summit.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, are down in 12th place with just 19 points amassed from 16 outings.

Now though, following the Liverpool game, Steven Gerrard has hit out at the decision to award Liverpool a penalty.

Instead, in Gerrard’s opinion, he believes that Salah fouled Tyrone Mings before the Egyptian won the penalty which decided the game:

“Penalty box to penalty box Liverpool were better than us.

“But ultimately the game has been decided by a penalty. There were two penalty incidents in the game, Liverpool got theirs – and if you look at it, Salah fouls Tyrone Mings first.”
