Steven Bergwijn’s stance on Tottenham exit revealed

An insight into the stance of Tottenham outcast Steven Bergwijn when it comes to a potential January exit from the club has been provided on Friday.

Lilywhites woes

Dutchman Bergwijn has of course endured an altogether underwhelming campaign to date.

Amid a combination of fitness woes and competition for places, the one-time PSV Eindhoven standout has been afforded just three Premier League starts.

The change on the bench at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last month, meanwhile, has not paid dividends for Bergwijn, either, with Antonio Conte having made clear that all of Heung-min Son, Lucas Moura and Harry Kane sit ahead of the winger in his attacking pecking order.

In turn, Bergwijn has managed only a pair of cameos off the bench over the course of the last month, amounting to a paltry 13 minutes.

Ajax bound?

It therefore shouldn’t come as all that much of a surprise to hear of the Dutch international being tipped for a January exit from north London.

Bergwijn, after all, remains highly regarded in many circles, with the 24-year-old possessing unquestionable talent.

Recent days have seen one club in particular persistently name-dropped as a potential destination following the turn of the year, in the form of Ajax.

And, as outlined above, on Friday, an insight into Bergwijn’s stance on the prospect of securing a return to his home country (with the fiercest rivals of ex-club PSV no less) has been forthcoming.

As per Dutch football expert Mike Verweij, speaking on the latest episode of the Kick-Off podcast, the gifted attacker has already made crystal clear to those in a position of power at Ajax that he would be open to linking up with the club this coming winter.

A transfer, on a loan basis to begin with, is therefore beginning to look increasingly likely.
