Southampton’s Tino Livramento quizzed on possible Chelsea return

Livramento impressing with Southampton

Tino Livramento would become just one of the countless Chelsea academy stars to depart the club without being handed a chance in the first-team.

With Livramento a right-back and fighting for a spot with fellow academy star Reece James and veteran Cezar Azpilicueta, it is fairly easy to see why the 18-year-old opted to depart over the summer.

Livramento would join Southampton for a reported £5m fee and, so far, that looks set to prove a real steal.

Livramento speaks on Chelsea return

Despite having zero Premier League experience to his name, Livramento was thrust straight into Southampton’s starting line-up by Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Livramento has hit the ground running at St Mary’s and though Southampton are yet to win a league game this term – drawing four and losing three – the defender has still put on some starring displays.

As a result, Chelsea fans are likely not too pleased that Livramento has departed the club, especially for such a small fee.

Now, in a recent interview, Livramento has opened up on leaving Chelsea:

“It was a hard decision for everyone involved.

“They agreed that it was best for me as well and they’ve always looked after me. I’ll never have a bad word to say about how they’ve treated me growing up and developing me into the player I am today. It’s probably the best academy in the world that anyone would want to go to and develop.

“Everything fell into place and I only had a year left so I felt like it was easy for me to leave at that time.”

In the same interview, the Englishman was quizzed on the possibility of returning to Chelsea, to which he stated:

“Maybe one day but I’m just enjoying my football at the moment at Southampton.

“That’s where my head’s at right now. Just trying to pick up as many points as possible and improving individually.”

Chelsea have the option of a buy-back clause on Livramento as part of the sale to Southampton, which is believed to be around £40m.
