Solskjaer on the chances of further Man United signings this summer & Paul Pogba’s future

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spoken out over the possibility of further reinforcements linking up with his squad before the close of the summer transfer window.

Reds making moves

The headline news at Old Trafford over the last couple of weeks has of course come in the form of the club’s efforts on the transfer front.

This comes as the Red Devils hierarchy finally go about building the kind of squad capable of launching a concerted push for major silverware over the years to come.

Such efforts, thus far, have proven altogether fruitful, with one statement signing set to be followed by another in short order.

First, after what felt like a lifetime of negotiations between the clubs, United finally confirmed that a deal for English international Jadon Sancho had been struck with Borussia Dortmund on the 23rd of July.

And this has since been followed by the announcement that Sancho is set to be joined at the Theatre of Dreams by one of world football’s finest defenders.

The player in question? Raphael Varane.

‘A bonus’

Despite the impressive endeavours of their club thus far this summer, though, the United faithful are not yet satisfied.

This comes with most of a Red Devils persuasion of the opinion that Solskjaer’s squad remains in need of a new deep-lying midfielder, before truly establishing itself back amongst the elite of English football.

In turn, speaking during a media exchange this week, it came as little surprise when the United boss himself was drawn on the prospect of further faces following Sancho and Varane through the arrivals door at Old Trafford over the coming weeks.

Solskjaer, though, was keen to play down the possibility, albeit whilst admitting that, in football, ‘anything can happen’.

‘Anything from now is a bonus.’

‘I have to say that with the two signings we’ve got, we’ve strengthened where we wanted to strengthen.’

‘Let’s see what happens. You never know in football. Anything can happen, ins and outs.’

The Norwegian was also asked for an update on the future of star midfielder Paul Pogba, who has of course been hotly tipped for a Manchester exit this summer:

‘I hope every player thinks this is the place to be to win trophies,’ Solskjaer explained.

‘When you sign for Manchester United, you have to rise to the challenge.’

‘Paul has come back and he’s fresh and he’s always such a positive boy. The talks I’ve had with him have all been positive.’
