‘Simply not good enough’: Fans single out Chelsea star for criticism following poor showing vs Southampton

Fans have taken to social media during Chelsea’s meeting with Southampton to single out one player for criticism.

Chelsea are currently locked in League Cup action with Southampton at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues would edge past Aston Villa in the 3^rd round to secure their spot in the last-16 and are no doubt hopeful of making it to the quarters on Tuesday as well.

Chelsea have fielded a slightly weaker side against the Saints. But as they have such a high-quality squad, Blues fans still likely fancied their chances of coming away with a win against a Southampton side who also made some changes to their starting line-up.

Thomas Tuchel’s side have dominated in both possession and chances created, but it did take them until the 45th minute to find the breakthrough via Kai Havertz.

Fans take aim at Saul during Chelsea vs Southampton

As mentioned above, during the tie, fans have taken to social media during the game to single out one Chelsea star for criticism.

That man is Saul Niguez, who joined Chelsea on loan from Atletico Madrid over the summer.

The Spaniard’s stint at the Bridge, however, has seen him struggle for both form and minutes.

And after being handed a rare start against Southampton, Saul has so far done little to win over fans on social media. Just some of the criticism levelled at Saul during the Southampton game can be seen below:
