Simona Halep Announces Unfortunate News Ahead of Wimbledon Championships Draw 2021
World No.3 and defending champion Simona Halep announced her withdrawal from the Wimbledon Championships 2021 just moments before the draw ceremony on 25th June. The Romanian had pulled out of the Bad Homburg Open 2021 last week due to a calf injury.
“It is with great sadness that I’m announcing my withdrawal from The Championships as my calf injury has not fully recovered,” Halep wrote on her Instagram post.
“I gave it everything I had in order to be ready to play Wimbledon and after having such special memories from 2 years ago, I was excited and honored to step back on these beautiful courts as defending champion. Unfortunately, my body didn’t cooperate and I’ll have to save that feeling for next year,” She concluded.

Simona Halep and her struggles with a calf injury in 2021
Halep’s 2021 season has been hampered by calf injuries. Following the commencement of the Australian Open 2021, Halep took a lengthy break from tennis. She returned to the tour at Miami Open 2021 but was forced to withdraw from the event before her second-round match.
She then started her clay-court season at the Stuttgart Open where she was defeated by Aryna Sabalenka. Her disappointing season continued as she was knocked out of the Madrid Open in the third round. As her clay season looked gloomy, Halep announced her withdrawal from the Italian Open and French Open 2021 after her calf injury resurfaced.
