Childhood: Selena Gomez was born in Grand Prairie, Texas. Her parents are Amanda Teefey, a stage actress, and Ricardo Gomez but they divorced when she was 5 and she was then raised by her mother. She was named after Mexican singer Selena and she developed an interest in acting from watching her mother act. She was homeschooled as a child. Her first acting roles were on children’s TV program ‘Barney & Friends’ and ‘Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over’.
Acting career: Selena Gomez had small roles in ‘Walker, Texas Ranger: Trial By Fire’, ‘Brain Zapped’, ‘The Suite Life of Zack & Cody’ and ‘Hannah Montana’ after being scouted by the Disney Channel. She was cast in ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ in 2007 as Alex Russo and the show immediately became a hit. In 2008, she appeared in ‘Another Cinderella Story’ alongside Drew Seeley and had a minor voiceover role in ‘Horton Hears a Who!’.
