See a moose shake its head, drop its antlers and panic

Animal antics can be quite fun. When a moose made it to Tyra Bogert’s house in Alaska and was captured on her doorbell camera, that alone would have been pretty cool to most people. But then, after standing still for a moment, the moose innocently shook his head – and the camera captures his antlers completely falling off, giving old Bullwinkle a good scare here.

The sight may seem shocking to humans, but National Geographic reports that moose antlers are not fused to animal skulls and they shed them every winter.

The fall of the antlers occurs about 35 seconds into the video, which Bogert shared on TikTok and Facebook.

Bogert then posted a second video of her husband exiting and retrieving the antlers, which she said the couple would hang on their wall. In this video, he brings them to the camera and holds them high.

Bogert didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment, but told McClatchy News the couple were “shocked” by what their camera captured.

“It really is such a once in a lifetime video and such a cool Christmas present,” she said. “I don’t think anyone finds a pair of woods like that.”

Only bull moose have antlers, and losing them can free them up to around 60 pounds in weight. The moose should start producing new antlers in the spring.
