Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 Alleged Renders Suggest Massive Cover Screen: Details

We’ve already heard rumors that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 will have a much bigger exterior screen, even bigger than the Oppo Find N2 Flip. We now have our first renders of what it might look like. The images suggest a horizontal dual-camera layout (vs vertical) alongside a small screen, along with a massive display below that takes up almost the full width and length of the phone, for that half. The tipster also claims with high certainty that Samsung will use a teardrop-style fold for its foldable screen, similar to Oppo, in the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5. If this is true, then we should expect a less prominent crease in Samsung’s upcoming foldables.

Tipster SuperRoader (@RoderSuper) with Technizo Concept (@technizoconcept) tweeted a bunch of renders of what they think the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 might look like.

Personally, I don’t see Samsung doing an outdoor dual display, especially if they’re going to start with such a large cover screen. The main advantage of having a large outer screen is that it should allow you to perform most trivial tasks without having to unfold the phone every time.

It’s a feature that many people are patiently waiting to arrive in Samsung’s next flip phone. Motorola had the right idea with its first foldable Razr and Oppo quickly doubled down on that idea with its first flip phone, the Find N2 Flip. The latter, while good, still has a lot of untapped potential, as we discussed in our recent podcast. The tipster also mentioned in another Tweeter that Samsung will switch to a teardrop-style hinge, primarily to reduce crease in the foldable display.

Given last year’s foldable launch, we should expect Samsung’s next-gen foldable phones to arrive between August and September. This is also around the time Qualcomm announces its more power-efficient and powerful flagship SoC, meaning the Galaxy Z Flip 5 could come with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 SoC. Other specs could include an IP rating, faster wireless charging, better cameras, and hopefully a bigger battery.
