The new DDR5 DRAM has also been announced as compatible with AMD products – it has been optimized and validated on Zen platforms.

Jooyoung Lee, EVP of DRAM Product & Technology at Samsung, said the new standard will be a key catalyst in driving market-wide adoption of DDR5 DRAM.

It is made using a new material that increases cell capacity and proprietary design technology that improves critical circuit characteristics.

The new DRAM is based on EUV (extreme ultraviolet) lithography, enabling higher die density and 20% higher wafer productivity. It also consumes 23% less power, paving the way for better eco-friendly operations among IT businesses.

The first USB sticks with the new DDR5 DRAM should start shipping in 2023.
