Royal Mail warns of serious disruption after ‘cyber incident’ – TechCrunch

Britain’s Royal Mail postal service said it was experiencing a “serious disruption to service” following a cyber incident.

In a statement on Wednesday, Royal Mail said it was unable to ship export items, including letters and parcels, to overseas destinations following the cyberattack. He added that international packages that have already been dispatched “may experience delays”.

“We have temporarily asked customers to stop submitting export items on the network while we work hard to resolve the issue,” Royal Mail said. “Our import operations continue to run full service with some minor delays. Our teams are working around the clock to resolve this disruption and we will update customers as soon as we have more information.

Other details, such as the nature of the incident and who was responsible, remain unclear, and Royal Mail has yet to respond to questions from TechCrunch. The company added in its statement that it was working with anonymous outside experts to investigate the incident and alerted the relevant authorities.

Royal Mail ships to 231 countries and territories worldwide.

News of the incident comes as Royal Mail workers stage a series of strikes across the UK in a bid to win higher pay and better working conditions. It also comes weeks after the UK Postal Service suffered a data breach which exposed customer information to other users, as reported by Sky News.
