Ronald Koeman latest: 5 Barcelona stars respond to sacking/Miralem Pjanic accused of aiming parting shot at Dutchman

FC Barcelona stars, past and present, have taken to social media on Thursday, to react to the departure of boss Ronald Koeman.

Falcao’s final nail in the coffin

The news which the Blaugrana faithful had been calling for throughout the early months of the campaign was of course finally forthcoming late last night.

The Catalans made the trip to Rayo Vallecano for a crunch La Liga clash, aiming to bounce back from a costly Clasico defeat at the hands of Real Madrid this past weekend.

When all was said and done at the Estadio de Vallecas, however, the woes of the stuttering heavyweights only deepened, as a solitary Radamel Falcao strike condemned Ronald Koeman and co. to a 3rd loss of the Spanish top-flight season.

In turn, with the club languishing in the depths of mid-table, those in a position of power at the Camp Nou, post-match, finally opted to take action.

An official statement across Barca’s social media platforms detailed that:

FC Barcelona has relieved Ronald Koeman of his duties as first team coach. The president of the club, Joan Laporta, informed him of the decision after the defeat against Rayo Vallecano. Ronald Koeman will say goodbye to the squad on Thursday at the Ciutat Esportiva.

FC Barcelona wishes to thank him for his service to the Club and wishes him all the best in his professional career.

A Pjanic dig?

If the ensuing reaction on Thursday is anything to go by, however, then, evidently, the Blaugrana’s stars have not been left feeling quite as elated as the club’s fanbase, owing to news of Koeman’s dismissal.

Taking to Twitter and Instagram over the course of the day, the likes of Gerard Pique and Sergino Dest have sent heartfelt farewell messages to their now ex-manager, thanking the Dutchman for all he did with the club:

One individual with close ties to Barcelona, on the other hand, who seems not only happy with Koeman’s exit, but felt it fitting to aim a dig at the 58-year-old on the back of his sacking, is Miralem Pjanic.

In a post on his official Instagram stories, the Bosnian midfielder, whose loan exit was sanctioned by Koeman, posted the following quote:

‘Know when to let that s**t go’
