Roman Reigns’ Hell in a Cell Match Brings In Over 2 Million Viewership for WWE SmackDown

WWE has some good news amidst their constant rating declines and complaint from fans. Last week’s SmackDown which was the Go-Home edition to Hell in a Cell drew a whopping average of 2.045 million viewers on FOX, according to Nielsen.

This is the first time SmackDown has drawn this many viewers after last month’s ‘Throwback Edition.’ Critics are attributing this growth to the epic Roman Reigns vs Rey Mysterio Hell in a Cell showdown.

PWTorch first reported the news. This final number is up 6.07% from the overnight viewership released on Saturday morning (an average of 1.928 million viewers). This number 5.2% more than last week’s SmackDown viewership of 1.944 million viewers.

In the key demographic of 18-49, Friday’s SmackDown drew a 0.54 rating. This number is also 12.5% more than the 0.48 key demo rating that last week’s show drew.

The numbers are a great motivator to WWE. The growth comes as the company is gearing up to return to live touring next month, starting from the Go-Home SmackDown to Money in the Bank 2021.

What happened at last week’s WWE SmackDown?

The main event of SmackDown featured the Hell in a Cell showdown between Roman Reigns and Rey Mysterio. The Universal Champion cleanly won the match with his inverted Guillotine Lock. WWE rescheduled the match from the PPV to Friday.

After the match, Jimmy Uso finally acknowledged him as the Tribal Chief and Reigns wreaked some more havoc on Mysterio. Apart from this, SmackDown scheduled three matches for Hell in a Cell on Sunday, including the Women’s Championship match.

Azeez decimated Kevin Owens in his in-ring SmackDown debut. Otis and Chad Gable attacked Angelo Dawkins, while his partner Montez Ford recovered from his injuries at home. Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Baron Corbin to become the new ‘king’.

Reigns will continue his tirade this week as well. We would update you on Friday’s show as soon as they roll out. Do you think SmackDown will continue the successful viewership record this week as well? Let us know in the comments below.
