Rival fans take aim at Grealish as Man City fall to Leicester in Community Shield

Viewers of this evening’s Community Shield clash have taken to social media in their droves, to poke fun at Manchester City.

Iheanacho comes back to haunt Citizens

English football’s curtain raiser was of course played out at Wembley a short time ago.

The annual matchup saw the Premier League champions  – Manchester City – and FA Cup holders – Leicester City – from last season go head to head, for Community Shield glory.

It was the former who understandably headed into proceedings as favourites, after making clear their domestic dominance once again in 2020/21.

Pep Guardiola, however, was without a number of key performers for the capital clash, with Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne having last night joined the likes of Ederson, John Stones and Raheem Sterling on the absentee list.

And, when all was said and done, it was one of those who would otherwise likely have been confined to the bench, that ultimately cost the Sky Blues dear.

With just minutes remaining at Wembley, Nathan Ake, afforded a rare start at the heart of City’s backline, handed Leicester the chance to open the scoring from the penalty spot.

Kelechi Iheanacho, the man fouled, went on to dust himself down, before slotting his ensuing spot-kick beyond the clutches of Zack Steffen, sealing Community Shield glory in the process.

Grealish targeted

On the back of the action coming to a close in London this evening, however, it is not the aforementioned Ake who has been on the receiving end of the brunt of the social media backlash.

Instead, the player in question comes in the form of Jack Grealish.

English international Grealish was of course announced as a new Manchester City player earlier this week, in a mammoth £100 million arrival from Aston Villa.

After being introduced off the bench versus Leicester, though, the midfield creator couldn’t quite conjure up the required piece of magic to put the Citizens on top, with rival fans, in turn, having not been at all shy in having some fun at Grealish’s expense:
