Riqui Puig sends heartfelt message to Barcelona fans after Champions League exit

Barcelona star Riqui Puig has, on Thursday, taken to social media, to send a message to the club’s fanbase.

Bayern cruise

Barca, of course, were back in action 24 hours ago.

In the club’s final Champions League group stage fixture, the Blaugrana made the trip to Germany to face Bayern Munich, aware that a defeat, coupled with a Benfica triumph over bottom-of-the-table Dynamo Kyiv, would see them sent packing from the competition.

And, in a huge blow to all associated with the club, when all was said and done, this is precisely what came to pass.

In the clearest showcase to date of just how far off the continent’s best Barcelona have truly slipped, a Bayern outfit with nothing on the line ultimately emerged on the right side of a 3-0 scoreline.

Thomas Muller, Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala were all on target for the hosts, condemning their fallen heavyweight opponents to the Europa League in the process.

Puig reaches out

In turn, on the back of another difficult evening in the club’s recent history, it came as little surprise to see the Blaugrana faithful, on Wednesday, up in arms.

The return of club icon Xavi Hernandez has done little to steady the off-course ship at the Camp Nou, with their Bayern slip-up having marked a 2nd-straight defeat in the space of four days.

As alluded to above, one member of the club’s struggling squad who evidently feels as though there is hope remaining in the Catalan capital yet, though, is youngster Riqui Puig.

Taking to social media this evening, midfielder Puig sent a heartfelt message to the Barcelona faithful, as a reminder of better times, as well as more prosperous things to come down the road:

Those of us who have been Catalan since I was a child like my family and I are not used to hard times like yesterday, when we only saw the club of my life win and celebrate titles like the Champions League in Paris in 2006 with my father and my brother.

But I am sure we will rise with the help of all and return to the place we deserve, among the best in Europe. Now more than ever we must be united and return to what made us unique. Players and staff will leave their skin to achieve this! Long live Barça!
