Richarlison targeted following ‘needless’ penalty drama vs Brighton
Viewers of Everton’s latest outing have taken to social media in numbers on Saturday, to take aim at star attacker Richarlison.
Blues in control
Rafael Benitez’s men are of course currently locked in Premier League action.
After getting their campaign off to an altogether positive start, the Toffees made the trip to the south coast, for a showdown with Graham Potter’s Brighton & Hove Albion.
Everton headed into proceedings hoping to make it seven points from an available nine to open the 2021/22 season.
And, as things stand on Saturday, this is precisely what they are headed towards.
The visitors currently lead Brighton by two goals to nil, courtesy of strikes from in-form summer signing Demarai Gray, and main man Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

‘Nonsense’
To this point in the action at the Amex, however, it is not the pair of goals netted by Everton which have grabbed the headlines.
Instead, this has come in the form of an incident in the build-up to DCL’s spot-kick finding the back of the net.
After Seamus Coleman earned the visitors a spot-kick, Richarlison quickly grabbed the ball, under the evident assumption that he was set to take responsibility from 12 yards.
Calvert-Lewin, however, has established himself as the Toffees’ first-choice penalty taker under Benitez, and slotted away in confident fashion versus Leeds just last week.
A somewhat embarrassing scene, in turn, followed, with Richarlison having ultimately been forced to give up the ball, before being ushered away from the penalty box:
as Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin fight over a penalty kick!
What an awkward moment for the Toffees…

And viewers of the clash were evidently not impressed by the behaviour of Everton’s Brazilian wide-man, with just some of the social media reaction to the incident showcased below:
Sub Richarlison off he’s gonna cost us the game

Richarlison stop being a baby

Not the first time that attitude has been shown. He knows exactly who the taker is and put some crazy pressure on DCL with his nonsense. Good player but I don’t get why he’s loved as much as he is.

Got no time for richarlison being like that. I get the desire to score but respect the fact that there’s the teams penalty taker playing

Richarlison is becoming too selfish… He wants everything for himself and I don’t longer see him playing for the team he’s rather playing for himself and that’ll bring him down like other Brazilian players.

Absolute disgrace from Richarlison…spoilt brat. Great penalty under needless pressure. #EFC

DOM SMASHES THE PENALTY HOME (after some embarrassing antics from a certain Brazillian we all love)
2-0 to THE TOFFEES!!!!!

I love Richarlison but this needs sorted out. Not the first time he’s done this, uncalled for. It’s different if our penalty taker is missing left and right but since we aren’t, let the assigned penalty taker take it.
