Revealed: Tottenham’s last-ditch effort to beat Liverpool to Luis Diaz
An insight has been provided into the last-ditch efforts of the transfer team at Tottenham Hotspur to beat out competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool for the signing of Luis Diaz.
The news which those of a Liverpool persuasion had been patiently awaiting was of course finally forthcoming on Sunday afternoon.
This came in the form of confirmation that the club’s first signing of the January transfer window – the aforementioned Diaz – had been secured.
The Merseyside giants are understood to have forked over an initial sum of 40 million euros to land the Porto star, with a further 20 million potentially to come in add-ons.

Liverpool’s move for Diaz coming to fruition, though, was actually set in motion by news of another of the Premier League’s biggest clubs – in the form of Tottenham – closing on a deal of their own for the wide-man.
The transfer team at Anfield are understood to have caught wind of their equivalents in north London stepping up efforts to land the Colombian prior to Monday’s transfer deadline, in turn stepping in to hijack the deal at the last minute.
The latest word stemming from the media late on Sunday, however, suggests that, in fact, Daniel Levy and co. attempted to hit back with a counter-offensive of their own.
As per the reliable Paul Joyce of The Times, Spurs made fresh contact with Porto on Friday, to table a fresh proposal. The terms in question would have seen the Lilywhites fork over the full £50 million fee up front, without the need for bonuses.
The last-gasp initiative on the part of the capital club, however, evidently, came up short.
Liverpool have completed the signing of Luis Díaz as it emerged that Tottenham Hotspur failed with a late offer to pay a guaranteed fee of £50 million for the Porto winger.

Juve duo incoming
On a more positive note when it comes to ongoings at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, it has been widely confirmed that Spurs are on the verge of a double deal with Serie A heavyweights Juventus.
The move in question will see both Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski take their talents to north London ahead of tomorrow’s transfer deadline.
Midfielder Bentancur is expected to link up with Antonio Conte’s squad on a permanent basis, whilst versatile wide-man Kulusevski will do so on loan, with the obligation to buy once certain conditions are met.
