Revealed: Thomas Tuchel’s plans for Trevoh Chalobah following impressive pre-season with Chelsea
An insight into the plans of Premier League giants Chelsea when it comes to the future of young defender Trevoh Chalobah has been forthcoming this weekend.
The name of 22-year-old Chalobah has take centre stage amid Chelsea’s pre-season to date.
Amid a dearth of defensive options on the back of this summer’s European Championships and Copa America, Blues boss Thomas Tuchel opted to hand Chalobah the chance to impress as part of his first-team ranks.
And this is an opportunity which the club’s youth product has since gone on to grasp with both hands.
Chalobah has featured in all three of the Pensioners’ pre-season fixtures to date, starting and impressing versus both Arsenal and Tottenham over the course of the last week.
The youngster is a central defender by trade, but is also more than capable of lining out in midfield, a role which he regularly took on during a loan spell with Lorient in France last season.
Loan exit incoming
In turn, with Chelsea, as of yet, having failed to push a deal for known target Jules Kounde over the line this summer, murmurs had begun to spread of late that Chalobah could yet be afforded a permanent spot in Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the 2021/22 campaign.
Such suggestions, however, have today been firmly shut down.
This comes with a fresh insight into the plans of the Blues for their up-and-coming young stopper having been provided.
The info comes courtesy of the reliable Adam Newson of football.london, who confirms that, despite impressing the coaching staff in West London to this point in the summer, Chalobah will once again be farmed out on loan over the coming weeks.
This comes simply due to the number of more experienced central defensive options currently at the disposal of Thomas Tuchel.
Chelsea are keen for the 22-year-old to secure regular first-team minutes over the year to come, with clubs in all of Spain, France and England having already expressed an interest in Chalobah’s signature.
The likely deciding factor in where the English youth international ends up, though, will be where exactly on the pitch his suitors intend to utilise his talents, with Tuchel and co. keen for Chalobah to gain further experience as a centre-half.
Understand Trevoh Chalobah is set to leave Chelsea on loan before the end of the transfer window despite impressing Thomas Tuchel in pre-season.
Club hoping to find a suitor who will use him as a centre-back rather than a six. https://t.co/xR0Zpi1eJO
