Revealed: Saul Niguez’s stance on leaving Chelsea in January

An insight into Saul Niguez’s stance on departing Chelsea in January has been provided recently.

Saul Niguez’s Chelsea stint

Saul Niguez would join Chelsea on a season-long loan from Atletico Madrid on transfer deadline day this summer.

The Spaniard, at the time, looked a real coup for the Blues, who were arguably a man short in central midfield – especially when considering N’Golo Kante’s persisting injury issues.

In turn, the experienced Saul looked like a great 4th option for Thomas Tuchel and co. However, the Atleti man’s Chelsea stint did not get off to a great start, with the midfielder having been subbed off after 45 minutes of his debut, versus Aston Villa.

Saul has since been handed just 27 minutes of action in Chelsea’s last four Champions League fixtures, and their ensuing seven league games.

Even more concerningly, Tuchel has opted to hand chances to the likes of Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek ahead of Saul, despite the pair’s Chelsea futures having looked altogether bleak at the start of the season.

Saul to stay put?

And, with Conor Gallagher seriously impressing out on loan at Crystal Palace, it does appear as though the Blues already have a ready-made central midfield replacement for next season.

So, with the January transfer window now approaching, it would likely make a fair bit of sense for Saul to return to his parent club to either fight for his place or perhaps seek a new move elsewhere.

However, that does not look set to be the case, with the Telegraph instead reporting that the midfielder will use the current international break to try and revive his Chelsea stint and that he has no plans to try and return to Spain in January:

Saul Niguez will use the international break to try to revive his Chelsea loan and has no plans to try to return to Atletico Madrid in January.
