Revealed: Exactly how much Chelsea will need to pay to sign Saul Niguez outright

Confirmation of the fee which will be required for Premier League giants Chelsea to make the addition of Saul Niguez a permanent one next summer has been forthcoming on Thursday.

Blues hard at work

A busy summer of business on the west of London was of course brought to a conclusion two weeks ago.

Already boasting a Champions League-winning squad, the majority of the work carried out by those in a position of power at Stamford Bridge came in the form of outgoings.

The likes of Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori, Kurt Zouma and Victor Moses were moved on on a permanent basis, whilst a host of others departed for respective loan spells away from the club.

On the incomings front, meanwhile, the return of Romelu Lukaku of course took the majority of the headlines.

The Belgian, fresh off the back of a scintillating campaign in Italy with Inter Milan, opted to link back up with the Pensioners, in a deal worth just shy of £100 million.

Then, just when it appeared as though Marina Granovskaia and co. had called time on their pursuit of reinforcements, another high-profile arrival was forthcoming on transfer deadline day.

The latest player through the door at Stamford Bridge? Saul Niguez.

In a potential steal on the part of Thomas Tuchel’s men, Spanish international Saul has taken his talents to the English capital on loan for the season, with the option to buy.

€40 million man

Niguez’s start to life in England has since proven far from ideal, with the 26-year-old having been afforded just a solitary appearance.

This came last weekend, in a Premier League meeting with Aston Villa.

So off the pace, however, did Saul look, that Thomas Tuchel was ultimately left with little choice but to hook the debutant after just 45 minutes at Stamford Bridge.

The on-loan Atleti man, in turn, was an unused substitute in Chelsea’s Champions League showdown with Zenit St. Petersburg on Tuesday night.

In turn, it has already been suggested by some that Chelsea could simply make use of Saul’s abilities for the 2021/22 campaign, before sending him back to base in the Spanish capital next summer.

Such claims, though, are of course reactionary to say the very least.

If instead, as many predict, Saul goes on to turn things around and shine in the blue of the Pensioners over the months ahead, then an insight into exactly how much it will cost the board at Stamford Bridge to make his signing permanent has today been forthcoming.

The info comes courtesy of transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who, speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, confirmed that the total outlay, including loan fee, would amount to a considerable €40 million:

‘Let me clarify one thing. The clause, the buy option, because it’s a loan for €5million (£4.3million) with a buy option.’

‘It’s not €30million (£25.7million) as I see sometimes, it’s €40million (£34.2million). So, it’s €5million loan, €40million buy option. This is the details for the Saul deal.’
