Reported Google Calendar bug to create incorrect events on Android and iOS devices

Google Calendar users have reportedly encountered a bug that causes the app to create random events based on emails received in the user’s Gmail inbox. Several users seem to have reported the issue on the Google Calendar app for Android and iOS mobile devices. The bug was also reported by various users on Twitter, who took to the social media platform to share screenshots of their Calendar apps filled with random events.

According to a report by 9to5Google, Google Calendar shows randomly created events that were triggered by messages in their Gmail inbox that don’t necessarily trace back to an actual event. The incorrectly created events mostly appear to be all-day events that were caused by a bug in the Gmail mobile app on some Android and iOS devices. However, it’s unclear what particular bug caused this, the report added.

Several users have been seen taking to Twitter to post screenshots of their all-day event-filled Google Calendar apps that lead to no actual events relating to the user.

Google Calendar users who want to avoid Google Calendar clutter can avoid the bug by going to Settings > Events > Disable “Automatically add events from Gmail to my calendar”​. However, this will prevent Google Calendar from tracking actual events from your Gmail inbox and providing users with notifications for the same as a reminder.

It’s important to note that Google has not officially acknowledged, addressed, or offered a fix for the reported bug.

Last year, the Alphabet-owned search giant introduced a “Focus time” entries feature that allowed users to set a time slot in which all meeting requests would be automatically declined.
