Report: Apple MR headphones on track for June launch, top Apple executives got final look

Apple is gearing up to unveil its next MR (mixed reality) headset soon, and the device was showcased to Apple’s top 100 executives last week at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, Calif., according to Bloomberg. The new report suggests that Apple is planning a WWDC 23 (June) launch for the headset which would debut as the Apple Reality Pro or Apple Reality One and will be one of its biggest launches in a long time.

According to Gurman, the headset’s development has been showcased numerous times to Apple executives over the years, but the latest preview was a final stepping stone before the big reveal in June with its hefty $3,000 price tag.

Besides, The New York Times also shared some key details about Apple’s foray into the world of mixed reality via anonymous Apple executives who were in attendance at last week’s Cupertino preview. The helmet is said to feature a ski goggle design with a carbon fiber frame and a hip pack that houses its external battery. The battery is said to last a few hours. The headset design won’t suit people who wear glasses, but Apple plans to offer custom prescription lenses for displays.

The latest report confirms two 4K screens inside and a “Reality Dial” that allows the user to increase or decrease the video of their surroundings in real time. The headset will target multiple user groups, including artists, with its ability to track head and hand movements for use with drawing and design applications.

Video conferencing is another key aspect of the device with a special “Copresence” app allowing users to spend time together in VR. Apple will also bring custom Hollywood content from Hollywood filmmakers.
