The release of the Realme 9 series earlier this year brought mixed feelings even from the brand’s fans and maybe that’s why Realme was in a rush to release the next gen to right some wrongs. And at first glance, the Realme 10 Pro might very well have a much better chance of winning new fans.

Essentially, the Realme 10 Pro offers a somewhat minimal upgrade over its predecessor, but a deeper dive into the specs suggests otherwise. The new model improves the display, completely changes the design and shares a next-level main camera with its more expensive sibling – the Realme 10 Pro+. That last bit is a big deal because the 10 Pro now uses a pretty big 108MP, 1/1.67″ sensor coupled with a wide f/1.8 aperture. It’s a big step up from the 64MP sensor on the 9 Pro.

Obviously that comes at a price, and that’s the exclusion of a macro and ultra-wide camera. However, we don’t think this is a big omission since the usual 8MP and 2MP ultra-wide macro cameras in this price range don’t offer significant value to the overall user experience.

The Realme 10 Pro also packs the same 5,000mAh battery, selfie camera and screen size as the 10 Pro+ and completes it with a highly sought-after microSD card slot. One of the few reasons to go for the more expensive Plus variant is to get the OLED display. Unfortunately, like its predecessor, the 10 Pro is content with an IPS LCD panel.

On the other hand, the new Realme promises better overall image quality, higher maximum brightness and a larger diagonal. So it’s not like Realme hasn’t tried to squeeze a high-quality LCD screen into the already tight budget.

Overall, the Realme 10 Pro sounds like a solid $300 mid-range with a focus on photography. We dig deeper into this review and assess the handset’s much-hyped camera capabilities, among other things.
