Karim Benzema handed one-year suspended prison sentence
Karim Benzema would go on trial back in October of this year.
The striker was accused of complicity in an attempt to blackmail fellow footballer Mathieu Valbuena over a sex tape found on his phone.
The case dates back to June 2015, when the two footballers were at a France training camp and would, at the time, lead to Benzema being banished from the national team up until earlier this year when he was re-called ahead of Euro 2020.
Benzema was on trial with four other men accused of trying to blackmail Valbuena.
And, on Wednesday morning, Benzema would be found guilty and handed a one-year suspended prison sentence and a €75,000 fine:

Benzema’s lawyer has announced that they will be appealing:
“It was clearly stated by the court that K. Benzema was not aware of the preliminary maneuvers. (…) We are quite flabbergasted by this judgment. The appeal is necessary. He will be exonerated at the height of this appeal. “

Elsewhere in the case, the aforementioned other four men on trial with Benzema were handed the below sentences:
– Zenati : 15 mois de prison, peine qui sera aménagée, 3 000€ d’amende.
– Houass prend 18 mois de prison avec sursis.
– Angot : deux ans de prison, peine qui sera aménagée.
– Zouaoui : deux ans et demi de prison, non aménageable, avec mandat de dépôt et 3 000€ d’amende.
