Rangnick explains decision to start Cavani over Cristiano Ronaldo for Manchester United vs Burnley
Manchester United have released their matchday squad for their clash with Burnley and it does not include Cristiano Ronaldo.

Rangnick has named a pretty strong squad for the clash, with David de Gea returning in place of Dean Henderson who started vs Middlesbrough this past Friday.
The big news of the day, though, came in the form of Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese has been on something of a goal drought of late. But with Burnley bottom of the Premier League, Tuesday’s game seemed like a great time for Ronaldo to get back on the scoresheet.
However, CR7 has actually been left on the bench for United:

Ralf Ranick has since explained why Ronaldo has been benched for Edinson Cavani, stating:
“We’ve played Burnley a couple of weeks ago and seen quite a few games here at Turf Moor, we knew in the early stages it will require a lot of running, chasing for second balls, so I decided to start with Edi because this kind of profile suits him.”

Edinson Cavani returns
With Ronaldo benched, Manchester United will be relying on the aforementioned Edinson Cavani to provide the goals this evening.
The Uruguayan missed the clash with Boro last weekend due to him returning fairly late from international duty.
But though he can be somewhat unreliable when it comes to fitness for Man United, Cavani is a proven goalscorer who had an excellent end to 2020/21.
He is also a much more mobile striker than Cristiano Ronaldo now is, and can help out with Manchester United’s pressing game much more than his 37-year-old counterpart, as pointed out by Rangnick above.
