Ralf Rangnick makes Manchester United trophy claim
Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has made an interesting claim about his side in a recent interview.
The Red Devils are set to face off with Burnley on Tuesday evening. Ahead of the game, Rangnick was asked whether United’s squad needed major surgery to challenge for trophies.
And, despite United being out of both domestic cups and well out of the title picture, Rangnick is of the opinion that Manchester United do not actually need to change that much:
“I don’t think so. Overall, the development of the team and its performances the last couple of weeks have improved,” the German stated.
“There are two points of criticism that we have to face regarding the Middlesbrough defeat. One: we wasted too many clear-cut chances — we had 22 shots inside the box, 10 were massive opportunities, and we should easily have been 3-0 up at half-time. It should have been 6-1 or 6-2 by the end.
“And the other one is 10 seconds before we conceded, it was a perfect counter-pressing situation inside their half, we took time away from them but not the ball and eight seconds later we were outnumbered in our box. Those are the two things I fault the team with. But we invested a week into the gameplan and many of the things we worked on were shown against Middlesbrough.”
Burnley vs Manchester United
As mentioned above, Manchester United will face Burnley on Tuesday evening.
The tie is a Premier League clash and a must-win for the Red Devils.
Man United are 4th in the Premier League right now, but both Arsenal and Tottenham can overtake them and knock them out of the Champions League places by winning games in hand.
And with a much tougher set of games to come for the Red Devils, they really need to pick up three points vs a struggling Burnley.
