Ralf Rangnick issues Manchester United injury update and Ronaldo status ahead of Arsenal clash

Ralf Rangnick has revealed that both Scott McTominay and Raphael Varane are in contention to play against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday lunchtime, but that Paul Pogba is set to have played his last minutes in a Manchester United shirt.

The interim Manchester United boss also confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo, who missed the Liverpool defeat due to a family bereavement, will be able to take part, but that Luke Shaw and Edinson Cavani could be sidelined for the rest of the season as well as Pogba.

‘Scott McTominay will be back and fit to play, he has beein training with us and he will train today, he will be available for the game, the same is true with Raphael Varane. Cristiano Ronaldo is available again, he’s been training with us’, Rangnick told the media.

‘All of the others are still injured plus Paul Pogba. Paul, as it seems, with the scan we did the day before yesterday, it is very likely he will not play until the end of the season again.’

‘The doctor told me it will take four weeks minimum for him to recover and obviously the last game is the end of May. I don’t think it is very likely he will be able to play again [this season].’

Manchester United in desperate need of three points

Should Manchester United fall to defeat against Arsenal, they would find themselves six points off the pace with four games to go in their season, likely consigning them to a place in the Europa League next season.

A win, however, would move them level on points with the Gunners, albeit having played a game more, and potentially three points behind Tottenham provided Antonio Conte’s side beat Brentford later in the day.

It is a massive clash in the hunt for the top 4.
