PSG’s Leonardo dispels rumors of Mauricio Pochettino wanting to leave for Man United

Leonardo wants Pochettino to remain

Paris Saint-Germain sporting director and former midfielder Leonardo spoke out in defiance regarding the notion that manager Mauricio Pochettino is destined to leave for Manchester United this season.

When speaking with AFP News Agency, the former Brazilian international denied both rumors that the Argentine wanted to leave the club, and that PSG held talks with Zinedine Zidane to be his replacement;

“We do not want Pochettino to leave. He never asked to leave and no club contacted us in relation to him. We never had any meeting or contact with Zinedine Zidane.”

This comes in stark contrast to reports earlier in the week that suggested that Pochettino could be about to jump ship, especially in the wake of their 2-1 defeat against Manchester City on matchday five of the Champions League group stage.

Major French outlet Le Parisien had also reported that PSG had talks with former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane which prompted thinking that the Paris outfit was set to name him as a replacement for Pochettino this season. But Leonardo’s stance seems quite firm, and the long-term managerial saga at Old Trafford looks set to continue.

Stat that shows Argentine may underperform at Man United

Despite a veritable whose-who first-team squad at the Parc des Princes this season that includes a ludicrous front-three of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, and Neymar, PSG are hardly performing like experts under Pochettino.

According to popular outlet Get French Football, the Parisians are considerably outperforming their current xG of 24.5 by 7.5 goals.

This was then postulated as coming down to the individual brilliance that is on offer at the club this season rather than any tactical nuance put forth by Pochettino on the touchline.

It could signify troubles ahead for United if the Red Devils were indeed to bring him into the fold moving forward, considering that the club is already struggling to be consistent when in possession and are well behind the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, and Liverpool.
