PSG “confident” over move for Lionel Messi

Messi leaves Barcelona

In a whirlwind 24 hours, it has been announced that Lionel Messi will no longer be a Barcelona player. The Argentine had been a free agent since 1st July, but there was confidence that a deal could be done to keep him at the Camp Nou in the coming days.

However, this proved not to be the case, and the Spanish club yesterday released a statement confirming that Messi will be leaving the club.

In a press conference on Friday morning, Barcelona president Joan Laporta outlined why the move fell through, saying:

“The salary max is 110% of the total income of the club, and we don’t have any margin in terms of salary. The rules and regulations of the Spanish La Liga is regulated by FFP.

“We have to abide by the rules. We think they could be more flexible but thats not an excuse, we knew the rules”.

“The losses are a lot more elevated than what we had expected, what we are spending is a lot more than we expected, and the current contracts means that we have this salary max of great magnitude, and we have no margin.”

Messi PSG bound?

Due to their ability to splash the cash, French side Paris Saint Germain quickly emerged as frontrunners for Lionel Messi’s signature late last night.

Now, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, PSG are “progressing” in talks for a move, and are “feeling confident”. Adding Messi to Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Angel Di Maria will give PSG the strongest frontline in Europe, and would surely make them favourites for this seasons Champions League.

Can anyone else tempt Messi into a move?
