The PS4 and Xbox One versions of Hogwarts Legacy have once again been delayed. In a tweet, studio Avalanche Software confirmed that open-world versions of the Harry Potter RPG for previous-gen consoles will now release on May 5, with the aim of providing the “best possible experience across all platforms.” All versions were originally scheduled to launch on February 10, but these ports were delayed to April 4 last year and have been postponed again. Currently, there’s no word on a further delay for the Nintendo Switch version, which is likely still on track to release on July 25th.

While Avalanche Software hasn’t explicitly stated what the extra month of development will be used for, we can assume it’s a better optimization on outdated PS4 and Xbox One specs. Since launch, there have been several reports of micro-stutters and lighting issues that sometimes make Hogwarts Legacy on PC too dark or too bright. It’s entirely possible that such performance issues also affected the experience on the latest generation consoles during testing.

For what it’s worth, it’s good that the developers aren’t dropping these Hogwarts Legacy builds just yet, given that it seems like an easy fix. Another WB Games published title Gotham Knights comes to mind – the team outright canceled previous-gen releases midway through development.

Late last month, publisher WB Games confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy had sold 12 million copies in the two weeks since its release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. This figure makes it the biggest game launch for the company. Hogwarts Legacy also topped the Twitch charts, peaking at 1.28 million concurrent players and becoming the #1 single-player game on the streaming platform. Its impact was nothing short of surreal and was even seen on the Wizarding World website – the official destination for all Potterheads – which saw 300% higher traffic than usual in early February, according to Warner Bros. Discovery. That being said, the developer has no plans yet to capitalize on the hype by releasing any DLC – in addition to patches – as it continues to work on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch versions.

Set in the 1800s, long before the Chosen One was born, Hogwarts Legacy puts you in the shoes of a fifth-year witch/wizard who possesses the rare ability to see and harness ancient magic. While on the run from a hostile goblin, you must juggle responsibilities – taking classes in the iconic magic-charged castle, exploring the dense Forbidden Forest, learning to make potions, and battling dark wizards and hostile creatures that cross your path. path. Quidditch has been canceled for the year, per tradition, but you can still fly around the world on broomsticks.

Hogwarts Legacy on PS4 and Xbox One is now set to release on May 5. The Switch version is currently slated for a July 25 launch.
