Plateau south elects female senator as APC wins by wide margin

Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nora Dadu’ut has been declared winner of the Plateau south senatorial bye-election.

The election was conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday and the APC candidate, Dadu’ut emerged victorious with 83,151 votes.

She defeated George Daika, her main challenger and member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who secured only 70,836 votes.

It was learnt that Dadu’ut won in four local government areas in the senatorial zone — Shendam, Wade, Quan’pan, and Mikang, while Daika won in the two local government areas of Langtang North and Langtang South.

Dadu’ut is a professor of French and head of the department of French at the University of Jos, Plateau state.

INEC had suspended the bye-elections — in 11 states — in October owing to the #EndSARS protests across the country.
