Tottenham lose out in Willian battle

“The sh*t from Spurs, they bought his flight

But Willian, he saw the light

He got a call from Abramovich,

And off he went to Stamford Bridge”

Tottenham fans will be all too aware of how events unfolded in their chase for the then Anzhi Makhachkala winger Willian in 2013, after the Brazilian completed a medical with Spurs, only to

By all accounts, Willian had a successful career with the blues, and while his Premier League legacy will be tarnished by the dreadful spell that followed at Tottenham’s north London rivals Arsenal, his signing proved a good one for Abramovic and co, much to the chagrin of Daniel Levy and the lily whites.

But now, finally, after all the years of hurt, could Spurs be set to get their own back?

Christensen on the move, and Tottenham a contender

Now, Spurs could have a chance to snatch a player from the jaws of Chelsea, with Andreas Christensen stalling on a contract extension with the Blues.

It is understood that a preliminary agreement had been reached, or so Chelsea thought, only for the goalposts to be moved by his agent, angering those in power in West London.

And now, as per the Daily Star, Tottenham have entered the race to sign him as a free agent.

They report that the news of a stalling deal “has put a host of clubs, both here and abroad, on standby – and Spurs are the latest to enter the equation.”

With Tottenham already employing a back three, Christensen would slot straight in. The question is, however, if he would take such a sideways or even backwards move at this stage of his career.
