Paratici’s influence revealed as Tottenham announce big-money Cristian Romero signing
Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur have, on Friday evening, announced the long-awaited arrival of Cristian Romero from Atalanta.
Serie A standout
Recent weeks of course saw links between Spurs and Argentinian stopper Romero ramp up in a major way.
This came with new Lilywhites boss Nuno Espirito Santo – on the back of Toby Alderweireld’s surprise departure – having been on the lookout for reinforcements at the heart of his backline.
The likes of Jules Kounde, Kurt Zouma and Nikola Milenkovic, at one point or another, were all tipped as potential arrivals in North London.
Romero, though, remained the firm ‘priority’ of Daniel Levy and co. throughout, with the ex-Juventus man fresh off the back of something of a breakout season in Serie A, backed up by Copa America glory with his country.
Tottenham still in negotiation for Cristian Romero but no agreement yet on €55m fee – he’s the priority. 100%. ⚪️ #THFC
Plan B: open talks to sign 3 different defenders with same amount. Tomiyasu [€18m], Milenkovic [€15m] and Zouma [€25m].
Caleta-Car, NOT even an option.

Spurs switch sealed
In turn, it should come as little surprise, on Friday, to hear that a deal to take Romero to the English capital has finally been pushed over the line.
In a series of posts across the club’s social media platforms, Tottenham confirmed that the Argentinian international has put pen to paper on a long-term contract with the club:

A further insight into the terms of the transfer, meanwhile, has since also been provided.
As per journalist Fabrizio Romano, Romero, whose contract in North London will run until the summer of 2026, is expected to set Spurs back a fee of around €55 million.
The influence of new Lilywhites Director of Football Fabio Paratici has too been highlighted as key, with Romero having ‘only wanted Spurs’, due to the presence of the man who also brought him to Juventus back in 2019:
Official and finally confirmed. Cristian Romero joins Tottenham on a permanent deal for €55m – contract until June 2026. He only wanted Spurs as Fabio Paratici already signed him at Juventus. ⚪️🇦🇷 #THFC
