Overwatch 2’s Battle for Olympus event is now live, heroes fashioned from Greek myth

Overwatch 2’s Battle for Olympus limited-time event is now live. The latest update ushers in the new seasonal mode, which introduces a free-for-all deathmatch game with seven select heroes, reimagined as Greek gods, goddesses, and creatures. Blizzard Entertainment previously released a trailer for the event, teasing some of the new godlike abilities that add to your champions’ ultimates. The studio has now shared some patch notes that break down each ability, along with a global leaderboard that is used to immortalize a hero with an in-game statue. The event is scheduled until January 19.

To reiterate, Battle for Olympus is simply Overwatch 2’s standard deathmatch mode with a fresh coat of Olympian paint. Keep in mind that the new effects are limited to this mode only, and the quick play and competitive play segments will continue with the normal hero kits. The seven playable heroes included in the game mode are Junker Queen, Lució, Pharah, Ramattra, Reinhardt, Roadhog, and Widowmaker – all of whom are armed with “godlike” ultimates that last longer than standard ones, and add changes to your usual set of movements. Additionally, each character is designed and named after an appropriate Greek legend, whose skins can be purchased using coins earned by completing weekly challenges. Much like previous seasonal events, Battle for Olympus can be accessed by accessing the Arcade section.

When playing Lúcio reimagined as Hermes – thanks to his speed – his ultimate Divine Sound Barrier will last for 20 seconds, granting him infinite ammo, the ability to jump again after jumping off a wall, and attack speed and displacement greatly increased. Additionally, if his Boop action knocks enemies into a wall, they will take extra damage and will soon be stunned. Since Overwatch 2’s Battle for Olympus is a deathmatch mode, this healer’s abilities only benefit him. Meanwhile, the Widowmaker sniper, which is modeled after the Serpent-Headed Medusa, can turn enemies staring at you to stone, when targeted. This, of course, goes along with the true Greek Gorgo, who petrifies those who look directly into his eyes. Not to mention, the ultimate allows for a high-risk, high-reward style of play, incentivizing you to trick enemies into noticing your vantage point.

What you’re getting here is basically a God Mode for Overwatch 2, where all the powers are taken straight from Greek mythology. Minotaur Reinhardt’s divine ultimate also lasts 20 seconds, allowing him to heal himself whenever an enemy is slammed or charged into a wall. He can now pin up to three opponents at once, with wall slams dealing bonus damage and setting the next cooldown to just 0.5 seconds, which is incredibly overpowered. Zeus Junker Queen is equipped with Divine Rampage, where all damage dealt using his Scattergun has a chance to apply additional Lightning damage to his abilities. Meanwhile, the new Ramattra tank comes equipped with the sea god Poseidon’s perk, starting with the Ravenous Vortex, a large whirlpool that sucks in enemies and then launches them into the air. You can also fire large water blasts that deal heavy damage.

Roadhog only has one eye in the mode, thanks to his Cyclops-inspired power. His 15-second Divine Roadhog ability greatly expands his body, adding 600 health, and adds the ability to throw rocks instead of his normal fire ultimate. His melee attacks, on the other hand, deal five times more damage than usual and knock enemies back with each hit. And finally, there’s Hades Pharah, who is now mobile when performing her Rocket Barrage, making her less open and vulnerable to being stunned or killed during animation. Additionally, during the 20 second period of the divine ultimate, each kill heals Pharah and extends the duration of the effect.

As previously stated, the hero with the most kills at the end of the Battle for Olympus event will forever be immortalized with a statue on the Illios Ruins map. Additionally, Overwatch 2 is now littered with special challenges that help unlock new themed voice lines, player titles, and new cosmetics that can be purchased using Overwatch Coins. There is also a checkpoint-based challenge, which unlocks the Legendary Winged Victory Mercy skin.

Overwatch 2’s Battle for Olympus event is now live until January 19 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.
