Oppo would withdraw from the main European markets

In a rather sudden turn of events, Oppo is reportedly exiting several key European markets, including the UK, Germany, the Netherlands and France. The news broke on the Chinese portal 36 Krypton who shared details of Oppo’s impending departure from the UK and Germany, followed by tweets from industry insiders Snoopy Tech And Max Jambore which also claimed that OnePlus would also join its parent company in the aforementioned markets. OnePlus has since released an official statement denying reports of its exit from European markets. Oppo has yet to make any official comments.

The reasoning behind Oppo’s alleged departure from major European markets most likely dates back to a series of patent infringement cases with Nokia after the major patent agreements between the two companies expired in 2021. Nokia has filed several lawsuits against Oppo in July 2021 and won lawsuits in two German courts that led to Oppo and OnePlus phone sales being banned in Germany.

Following its court success in Germany, Nokia sued Oppo for patent infringement in Finland, Germany, Sweden, the UK and the Netherlands and also filed lawsuits in other European and Asian countries. It remains to be seen what the future holds for Oppo and other BBK Group companies in Europe.
