Opera Browser for iOS gets a free built-in VPN, lets users browse the web privately
Opera added a free built-in VPN (virtual private network) in its mobile browser for Android in 2019. Years later, the company is rolling out the free VPN feature to the Opera browser for iOS as well. This would allow iPhone and iPad users to browse the web privately without any additional extensions. With the latest addition, Opera claims it has become the first web browser to offer a free built-in VPN on Android, Mac, Linux, Windows, and iOS platforms. Opera for iOS is also getting other updates, including the Bookmarks feature with speed dial and a new live score.
Opera on Wednesday announced the addition of a free VPN to the Opera browser for iOS via a blog post. This service debuted in its mobile browser for Android in 2019. The latest update allows iPhone and iPad users to access the web while ensuring online security and anonymity by creating a network private from a public Internet connection.
iOS users can enable the VPN from the hamburger menu on the homepage. This is supposed to encrypt VPN traffic and keep the IP address private. The new native VPN service is free and has no log management requirements. In addition, no additional extension is required to benefit from the service.
Opera claims that it maintains user anonymity and guarantees that the browser does not collect any personal data or information related to users’ browsing history or originating network address.
The free VPN is already available on various platforms, including Opera for Mac, Windows, Linux, and Android. With the latest addition, Opera says it has become the first web browser to provide VPN for free on all major platforms.
The new feature is currently available to select users for early access, and the company is expected to complete the full rollout in the coming weeks.
Apart from the free VPN service, Opera browser for iOS also gets several new features. A bookmarks feature for organizing online activities is also being rolled out. It comes with a speed dial feature that allows users to access pages or sites instantly. Also, there is a new Live Score feature which would display matchday match scoreboards on the browser homepage.
Opera for iOS also offers a quick action button that keeps all the navigation tools right at your fingertips. My Flow enables file sharing between phones, tablets and computers and the browser’s Crypto Wallet allows users to keep track of their digital assets at all times.
