OnePlus V Fold, OnePlus V Flip allegedly spotted on brand site, launch imminent

OnePlus is set to unveil the OnePlus 11R, OnePlus 11 5G, and OnePlus Buds Pro 2 TWS headphones at the Cloud 11 launch event on February 7. Besides these new products, the Chinese smartphone brand is reportedly preparing to unveil its first foldable smartphones soon. The range of foldable smartphones would include both foldable and conventional clamshell devices. OnePlus is said to have filed trademarks for the OnePlus V Fold and OnePlus V Flip smartphones. At this point, no official details are available on the OnePlus foldable models and it’s unclear if the devices will even debut this year.

Tipster Mukul Sharma tweeted a screenshot of OnePlus trademarks for its foldable devices. The listing suggests OnePlus V Fold and OnePlus V Flip monikers for upcoming models. He claims that internal testing of (at least) one of these devices has begun in several regions, including Europe. The brand would launch conventional (horizontal) foldable smartphones and clamshell foldable smartphones. OnePlus has yet to release a foldable phone.

OnePlus has yet to announce the specs of its foldable handset so far. In August last year, OnePlus co-founder Pete Lau shared photos of a hinge on Twitter hinting at the development of a foldable smartphone without confirming the name or other details.

OnePlus’ first foldable phone may bear some similarities to Oppo’s Find N which was launched in December 2021. It is rumored to come with Android 13. That said, the company may consider announcing its phone plans foldables at the Cloud 11 launch event on February 7. The event will see the launch of the OnePlus 11R, OnePlus 11 5G and OnePlus Buds Pro 2 TWS headphones.

Samsung currently has an early lead in the foldable smartphone space. OnePlus’ sister company Oppo recently launched Find N2 and Find N2 Flip in December last year. Upcoming OnePlus models could rival the likes of Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy Z Fold 4, Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 and Motorola Razr 2022.
