One midfielder in, one out? Tottenham’s move for Man United-linked Pape Sarr ‘almost complete’
Surprise reports stemming from the European media on Friday afternoon suggest that Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of closing a deal for Metz sensation Pape Matar Sarr.
Sarr, 18, is widely viewed as one of the finest up-and-coming talents in France.
The teen is a defensive midfielder by nature, but in possession of the kind of technical quality which means that he is also more than capable of taking on a box-to-box role in the middle of the park.
Such abilities saw Sarr, despite his tender years, go on to rack up 22 Ligue 1 appearances last season, including an impressive 18 starts.
The Senegalese, capped once by his country, also managed to notch three goals across his debut campaign in senior football.

The opening weeks of the new term, meanwhile, have since seen the midfield all-rounder in from the off in both of Metz’s Ligue 1 outings, continuing to add to his reputation as one of the most highly-regarded young talents in Europe.
Such stellar exploits at such an early point in his career, though, were always likely to see interest piqued from abroad.
The early weeks of the summer saw Manchester United named as one of a host of clubs keen on Sarr’s signature, with an ensuing update earlier this week having named both Man City and Chelsea as keen, too.

As outlined above, however, if the latest word stemming from the European media on Friday is anything to go by, then Sarr in fact looks bound for another of the Premier League’s ‘top-6’.
The outfit in question? Tottenham.
First, it was reported by Daniele Longo of Italian outlet Calciomercato that Spurs were expressing serious interest in the midfielder’s services:

This came as an altogether noteworthy development, amid confirmation on Friday that Tanguy Ndombele has set his sights on a move away from North London over the coming weeks.
And a further update on Sarr has since swiftly followed, with RMC Sport journalist Joris Crolbois having gone as far as to claim that the teenage prodigy’s Spurs switch is ‘almost complete’.
The move is expected to set the board at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium back a fee of around €10 million, plus a further 5 million in bonuses.
