Crystal Palace’s summer window

Crystal Palace have, on paper at least, had a very solid 2021 summer transfer window.

With an ageing squad and several players leaving on frees, it was clear that the Eagles needed to dip into the market to improve their squad this summer.

And, to their credit, Palace look to have completed some smart business.

From Chelsea, Palace would sign 21-year-old centre-back Marc Guehi on a permanent basis whilst also loaning Conor Gallagher from the Blues for the season.

Elsewhere, Will Hughes has arrived from Watford, Joachim Anderson from Lyon and Michael Olise from Reading.

All of these signings are relatively young, with Hughes the oldest at 26, and look to represent some solid long-term planning from the club.

Palace sign Edouard

The one area that Crystal Palace fans likely wanted addressing before the window shut, however, was centre-forward.

Patrick Viera’s side have struggled for goals so far this term, with Conor Gallagher’s brace against West Ham their only goals in four games in 2021/22.

Now though, Palace have addressed this issue with the signing Odsonne Edouard from Celtic.

The 23-year-old has scored 86 and assisted 39 in 179 outings for the Scottish outfit and should add some much-needed goals to Palace now.

And now, with just under an hour of the window left, Palace have confirmed Edouard’s signing:

After moving to Palace, the striker had this to say:

“I’m very happy to be here today. I can’t [wait] start to train with the team and to play for this club… Scoring goals in the Premier League may be the biggest challenge in my career. But I’m confident in myself and my teammates to be successful.”
